First published 1942? Autobiography much concerned with his business career and often dealing at length with his participation in individual contracts albeit in an anecdotal way. The first part of his career was spent as an engineer with John Waddell & Son when he acted as site engineer or site manager. His contracts included: connections to Tay Rail Bridge, 1877-79; Montrose & Arbroath Railway, 1879-81; Whitby & Loftus Railway, 1881-82; Scarborough & Whitby Railway, 1882-85; Mersey Railway, 1885-87; Burntisland & Inverkeithing Railway, 1887-90; Lock Katrine Aqueduct, 1891-95. He then worked for Galbraith & Meares re Fraserburgh Harbour Improvements, 1895-96. Subsequently he worked for L P Nott with whom in due course he became a partner and head of Nott, Brodie & Co Ltd. He describes their projects re Prince of Wales Dry Dock, 1897-1900, and Mersey Docks, 1900-08. Deals also with the formation of Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors. Post 1914 period not related in any detail
