Notes:

Deals with the planning of organisational change at Cadbury Ltd, notably its Bournville factory, Birmingham, charting the decision making process behind and within a major capital investment programme initiated in the mid 1970s and implemented throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. Deals in particular with impact on employment, occupations, skills and work organisation, interpreting these issues through contextual analysis of Cadbury in its historical setting, its industrial sector and the power relations within management and between management and organised workers. Based on primary materials at Cadburys and over 60 interviews with managers and trade unionists, 1982-86. Organised in three parts: 1] context of the company; 2] capital investment programme; 3]relationship between the planning and implementation of work organisation at Cadbury and wider theoretical debates. Not a history of the business but contains much of interest to the historian, eg: 'Cadbury Ltd in its sector'; 'The Bournville Factory from greenfield development to maturity'; 'Strategic development since the Second World War'; etc
