The letters date from shortly after he obtained his master's certificate. In total they number 500 and are 'purely business letters, concerned exclusively with the day to day issues facing the master of a tramp steamer, both in port, and, to a lesser degree, at sea'. He captained ships managed or owned by Jenkins, Williams & Co /Jenkins Brothers and, later, W & C T Jones Steamship Co Ltd, both of Cardiff. Has introduction covering Jenkins' life and work and appendices analyse his voyages, cargoes, etc. Also Jenkins family tree. Most of the volume comprises transcriptions of letters [pp25-253]
