Written by retired electrical engineers. Provides an account of the power stations built at Spondon, now all demolished. The first, Spondon A, was built in the 1920s by British Celanese and in 1929 was sold to Nottingham & Derby Power Co Ltd. Later nationalised and subsequently acquired by Courtaulds through its acquisition of British Celanese in 1957. Closed 1980s. Spondon H was built by CEGB to supply British Celanese / Courtaulds and opened in 1959. Closed c1990s. Replaced by Derwent Power Station which opened in 1995 to supply Courtaulds and was partly owned by them and also, inter alia, by Southern Electric Power Generation, later Scottish & Southern Energy. Monthballed 2012 and demolished c2021
