Draws heavily on a manuscript written by Edward R Fawcett, d1939. His father had been a miner in the Swaledale lead extraction industry and displaced by mine closures. He himself had in 1914-18 formed a partnership with others to work lead mines at Arngill and Ivelet under wartime conditions when the industry briefly revived.
