Examines role of investment institutions in corporate governance, principally banks, and more latterly venture capital investors in Britain. Is concerned with two basic issues, viz: 1] have British banks remained traditionally disconnected from industry, particularly relative to continental European and Japanese banks, and has this reflected the fundamental form in which investment has taken place? 2] has there been a change over time, with new forms of investor, in this case venture capital, structuring investments differently, and taking a much closer interest in directing and influencing corporate activity.
