Notes:
Considers free standing companies in Russia, particularly in the context of the role of British and Russian financial institutions, and seeks to answer two broad questions: 1] 'what was the mechanism of financing British-Russian undertakings. In which country was the money raised?'. 2] 'What were the relationships between British and Russian financial institutions and the companies being financed? Were there any connections between organizational patterns and the type of financial mechanism?'. The chapter is organised in three parts: 'The first part ... examines the nature of functional relationships in a typical business cluster, including the participation of investment trust companies that acted as intermediaries as well as intermediary and core free standing companies. The distinction between intermediaries and core free standing companies is unique to my research. The second part analyses examples at variance with the typical pattern. The third part summarizes the most important findings of my research.'
