Traced shipowning interests to Thomas Barraclough, d1916, who in 1875 became a partner in West Hartlepool Steam Navigation Co. Subsequently formed Webster & Barraclough in 1899 to operate a fleet carrying local coal and other materials to Europe until 1918. Subsequently Thomas's sons continued family shipping interests and in c1932 acquired control of Dene Shipping Co Ltd sometime owner of Silver Line Ltd of Sunderland. 1965 formed with others Seabridge Consortium to operate bulk carriers. 1971 Dene merged with Shipping Industrial Holdings Ltd.
