Soon diversified, eg into an important undertaking business and into carpet and upholstery selling. 1840s relocated to Argyle St and later to Buchanan St where developed into a major retail business. Also developed manufacturing activities, most notably from 1850s cabinet making including ship and yacht interiors, which became largest unit in Scotland, and wallpaper production which was also very substantial. 1883 incorporated. Opened Manchester branch 1889. 1904 wallpaper unit transferred to Wallpaper Manufacturers Ltd. 1957 acquired by House of Fraser Ltd [2023]
