Traced origins to Cambridge Aeroplane Construction Co, established in 1931 by Cambridge scientist, Norman de Bruyne, to design and construct aircraft. Developed as a consultancy and specialist research and development business at Duxford, registered as Aero Research Ltd in 1934. Especially focused on composite materials and adhesives for aircraft, its first branded product being Aerolite. Especially close to De Havilland. 1947 majority holding acquired by CIBA of Switzerland, subsequently renamed CIBA (ARL) Ltd and later subsumed into CIBA GEIGY (UK) Ltd
