Notes:

Wilder family foundry and engineering businesses date from early 19th century. One business was established c1830 at Wallingford by Richard Wilder and later known as R J & H Wilder. Made foundry goods especially for local farmers and, later, agricultural machinery. 1870s started contract hire of steam ploughs, threshing machines, etc. Diversfied in 1908 into motor vechicle sales/repair/hire and in 1930s into electrical retailing. From 1935 known as John Wilder Ltd. Walter Wilder & Sons Ltd was an entirely separate business, established c1868 at Crowmarsh. Incorporated 1923. Made water carts, harrows, horse ploughs, rollers, etc. Latterly dealers/repairers/etc of agricultural machinery
