Made wide range of machinery including hydraulic lifts from 1868. Known as Richard Waygood & Co from 1872 and came to specialise in lifts, cranes and hoists and became a leader in Britain with overseas branches. c1890s Cliff Lifts Ltd established to build passenger lifts at seaside resorts. 1894 incorporated as R Waygood & Co Ltd. 1897 public company. 1902 merged with Otis Elevator Co Ltd, owned by Otis Elevator Co of USA, to form Waygood & Otis Ltd but separated 1903 until 1914 when remerged as Waygood Otis Ltd. Built escalators from 1920s. 1957 known as Otis Elevators Ltd
