Traced origins to 1810 when established as Thomas Blyth & Co, sail maker and ship chandler, in London. Later had interests in whale trade. 1826 renamed Thomas Blyth & Sons. c1830 established branch at Mauritius which acted as merchants and developed agency, sugar growing, shipping, etc, interests to become the leading business on the island as Blyth Brothers & Co. London business subsequently developed as merchants, known, inter alia, as H D & James Blyth and, in 1874, as Blyth, Greene, Jourdain & Co when Benjamin Buck Greene was a partner. Incorporated 1894. 1895 acquired banking business of Benecke Souchay. 1935 acquired Harper Gilfillan & Co, a London based business trading with Malaya. After 1945 focused on merchant banking and commodity trading
