Established 1777 by Joseph Tylor to make hardware such as kettles and other domestic liquid containers. By mid 19th century making sanitary and water fittings and were also bronze and brass founders. By 1884 making water meters in which the firm came to specialise. Issued catalogues from c1858. Initially incorporated as J Tylor & Sons Ltd. Moved works to Kings Cross late 19th century. Late 1950s acquired by Crane of USA and in 1975 acquired by GEC Ltd when part of its Flowmeter Division
