Established in 1890 by Charles Albert Blatchford, b1863, as a maker of artificial limbs, based in central London. 1895 referred to as 'Artificial leg, arm, hose and crutch manufacturers to the trade'. Soon based in Camberwell. Business much boosted by First World War, by when a sector leader, and Second World War. Established branches, eg at Cardiff in 1916. Incorporated 1919. 1960s relocated to Basingstoke. Postwar noted for its 'Stabilised Knee' product. By 1990 still owned and managed by Blatchford family. Continuing in 2018
