Traced origins to 1912 and formation of English Triplex Co Ltd established by George Delpech, to acquire the UK licence for making safety glass from Société du Verre Triplex of France. Initially based at Willesden and after 1920 grew very rapidly on back of orders from motor vehicle manufacturers. Known as Triplex Safety Glass Co Ltd from 1922. Public company from 1925. Established from 1927 large plant at Kings Norton. From late 1920s Morris Motors Ltd gained control of business. Also in late 1920s manufactured via a joint venture with Pilkington Brothers Ltd. 1965 control acquired by Pilkington and owned outright by them from 1971
