Lead first worked from c1629 to 1635 by the Duchy of Lancaster who appointed Commissioners to work the mine on its behalf. Unsuccessful and closed. 1754 Clitheroe Mining Co, formed in 1753 to extract lead in the Burnley area, took a lease on the mines but again was unsuccessful and gave up in c1762
