Initially built locomotives at Avonside Engine Works and soon diversified into iron shipbuilding and marine engine building. Locomotive production became focused in Avonside Engine Co which was wound up in 1879. Shipbuilding, etc, business in c1854 focused in Stothert & Fripp which was later incorporated as G K Stothert & Co Ltd. Finally wound up in c1933
