Established 1958 through merger of Platt Brothers (Holdings) Ltd of Oldham, textile machinery makers, and J Stone Holdings Ltd of Charlton and Deptford, makers of electrical equipment, ship propellers, etc. 1962 acquired marine division of Managanese Bronze Ltd at Birkenhead. 1960s operated in four divisions, viz: textile machinery, pumps, electrical equipment and marine/mechanical equipment. 1970 textile division renamed Platt International and, from 1975, Platt Saco Lowell. Soon after acquired Ernest Scragg & Sons Plc of Macclesfield, textile machinery manufactures. In decline and restructured several times in 1970s and collapsed 1982
