Established 1974 by James (Jim) Slater, 1929-2015, and Peter Walker through acquisition of the public company, H Lotery & Co Ltd which was then renamed. Initially developed as an industrial conglomerate but in reality was an aggressive buyer of companies whose assets were then stripped and the business sold on. Came to have the characteristics of a bank, accepting deposits and managing investments, gradually disposing of industrial interests. Damaged in the Secondary Banking Crisis of the early 1970s and supported by the Bank of England who took control of the business. Reorganised and continued under new management as Britannia Arrow
