Traced origins to Henry Simon, later Lord Simon, 1835-99, who set up in business as a consulting engineer in 1867. 1878 established Henry Simon Ltd to contract for design and installation of grain milling machinery, being the first to introduce roller milling in the UK. 1880s established Simon Carves Ltd, with Société Carves of France, to produce innovative by product coke oven installations, the installation of which they financed. Diversified into other areas such as production of conveying machinery (1911), chemical plant (1915), boilers (1925), soap making machinery (1930), tyre retreading (1934) etc. Henry Simon succeeded as chairman by Ernest Simon. Latterly known as Simon Engineering Group. Divested engineering activities by c2000 when a port operator and logistics and storage provider
