Traces origins to Sheffield Water Co was established by act of parliament in 1830 to acquire the existing works that dated to the 18th century and establish a reliable piped water supply. Acquired by Sheffield Corporation in c1887 which in 1899 entered a partnership with Derby, Leicester and Nottingham Corporations to construct reservoirs in the Derwent Valley which were operated as Derwent Valley Water Board. By 1960s Sheffield took 25% of this water. 1903-09 Corporation built 4.5 mile Rivelin Tunnel to carry water from the reservoirs
