Traced origins to 1876 when Sheffield Corporation decided to build tramway infrastructure and lease it to Sheffield Tramways Co. 1896 acquired the tramways business which was soon converted to electrical trams. Initially operated trams. Started motor bus operations from 1913 and gave up trams by 1960. From interwar years operated bus services in conjunction with railway companies, later British Transport Commission, and later still the National Bus Co was involved . Early 1970s subsumed into South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive [2024]
