Notes:

Traced origins to a partnership of Charles Harthill and Samuel Jackson established in c1848 to make japanned metal trays. 1854 Joseph Sankey, 1827-86, joined partnership when known as Jackson & Sankey. Now focused on making blanks for sale to other japanners and diversified into hollowware including pans, kettles, churns, etc. Early 1860s acquired interest in Bilston Iron Co to secure sheet iron supplies. John Sankey succeeded to business. 1880s diversified into manufacture of electrical laminations for dynamos and thereafter electrical stampings became of major importance requiring new works and rolling mills. From 1891 known as Joseph Sankey & Sons. Incorporated 1902. 1910 acquired works near Wellington to make pressings for motor car bodies and wheels. c1916 acquired by John Lysaght Ltd which in 1920 became part of Guest Keen & Nettlefolds Ltd. Continued as an identifiable entity as GKN Sankey manufacturing a wide range of metal products especially parts for motor industry
