Established in Soho, London, in 1860 by Arthur Sanderson, d1882, as importers of quality wallpapers from France and long continued a wallpaper wholesaling business. 1879 started wallpaper manufacture at Chiswick, later moving to Perivale. 1899 wallpaper business became part of newly formed Wallpaper Manufacturers Ltd although Sandersons retained a high level of control. 1920s established a textile printing works at Uxbridge to which fabric production was later added. Focus of business was high quality products of distinctive fashionable design. Therefore employed leading designers and latterly obtained designs of William Morris's defunct business. 1929 entire business acquired by WPM Ltd although Sandersons continued as a clearly identifiable entity. WPM Ltd acquired by Reed International Ltd in 1965. Business continues in 2008 in ownership of Walker Greenbank Plc
