Traces origins to 1838 when established to promote best practice in agriculture. 1845 established Royal Agricultural College, later experimental research stations and national examination board. For many years held a prestigious annual show which relocated annually to a different town or city. Post 1945 concerned also with promotion of rural economy. For many years organised the Royal Show, held in Warwickshire, latterly at Stoneleigh, until discontinued in 2009. Continues
