From 1840s developed Brymbo Iron Works which by 1880s was largest steel works in North Wales, operating from 1884 as Brymbo Steel Co Ltd. Worked for and had interests in several railways in North Wales and adjacent areas, especially Chester & Shrewsbury Railway and North Wales Mineral Railway.
