Starling Benson, b1808, was a member of the Starling family which traced its origins as copper smelters to c1827 when Benson family established Usborne, Benson & Co to operate Forest Copper Works, Swansea. Also operated associated coal mines, etc, and in addition started to work as coal shippers. Developed into a leading local business and from 1833 known as Benson, Logan & Co. Starling Benson, 1808-79, was senior partner and influential in Swansea where, for example, he was chairman of Harbour Trust and of Swansea Vale Railway Co which did much to improve the transport infrastructure for Swansea business.
