Traced origins to 1932 when established at Willesden, London, by J A Peters and Harry Bowler as Petbow Ltd. Made welding electrodes and later other welding equipment, in particular mobile engine driven welders. Mid 1930s acquired three electrode making businesses. Late 1930s relocated to Acton, then to Watford and in 1947 to Sandwich. Diversified into, inter alia, mobile diesel generating sets, mobile workshops, mobile surgeries and other mobile/portable equipment manufacture, especially through 1961 acquisition of Vernons Industries Ltd of Liverpool. 1960s introduced silenced generators, especially for film industry. 1972 reorganised as Petbow Holdings Ltd and floated as a public company. 1994 acquired by Cummins Inc of USA
