Established in 1911 through merger of north Wales quarries of Darbishires Ltd, Brundrit & Whiteway Co and Welsh Granite Co Ltd. Had major quarries at Penmaenmawr (established 1830), Graiglwyd (established 1834) and Eifl. In 19th century made setts for road and pavement building, latterly also crushed granite for railway ballast and for aggregates for concrete. Latterly made tarmac and tar covered stone. Developed as a major regional business covering Wales and north west England. 1963 acquired by Bath & Portland Stone Firms Ltd
