Traced origins to c1876 when established as Jacob Parkinson & Co, a joinery and building business at Blackpool. From 1886 business led by (Sir) Albert Lindsay Parkinson, 1870-1936. Early Blackpool projects included hotels and a theatre. Built Theatre Royal at Newcastle c1902 and thereafter built several theatres in north of England, Midlands and London. Incorporated 1902. Opened London office by 1905 and after 1918 relocated head office there. First major contract was a hospital at Whalley in 1911. Undertook much airfield building, 1914-18. After 1918 handled large housing developments in north and offices, hotels and road building in London. Renamed Sir Lindsay Parkinson & Co Ltd after 1918. 1927 established a subsidiary to hold property interests. By 1930s a major UK construction business. In decline after 1945 and acquired in early 1970s by Leonard Fairclough & Co Ltd
