Traced origins to 1792 when established by Price, Fox & Tregelles of Falmouth to supply pig iron to their Cornish foundry, Perran Foundry, at Falmouth. 1790s install Boulton & Watt steam engine. c1800 started steam engine production. By 1818, when known as Neath Abbey Iron Co, making engineering parts and developing as a leading manufacturer of steam engines for marine, railway and stationary use. Also made iron ships. Managed from 1821 by Joseph Tregelles Price, 1784-1854. c1826 established a further ironworks at Glynneath and in 1840 acquired further plant at Briton Ferry. 1829 building locomotives. Closed first 1875 and, following a revival, finally in 1880s. Also associated with Neath Valley Coal Co. Close to Briton Ferry Iron Co
