Notes:

William Morris, 1834-96, was a noted designer associated with business enterprises. He inherited from his father, a wealthy bill broker and partner in Sanderson & Co, a significant shareholder interest in Devonshire Great Consolidated Trading Co Ltd. He also established the Kelmscott Press. Most notably he established in central London in 1861 Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co with other partners: Dante Gabriel, Ford Madox-Brown, Edward Burne-Jones, Philip Webb, Charles Faulkner, Peter Paul Marshall. Formed to produce and market designs, bridging gap between designer and producer. Did much ecclesiastical work. Designs focused on furniture, fabrics, wallpaper, ceramics, tapestries, stained glass, etc. Was at the centre of the Arts and Crafts movement. Following dispute dissolved in 1875 and reformed ass Morris & Co. 1877 established London showrooms. 1881 established Merton Mills Tapestry Works where printing, dyeing, tapestry work was located. Continued 1905 until 1940 as Morris & Co Decorators Ltd [2023]
