Robert Morgan, c1708-1778, developed major iron and tinplate production interests in southern Wales, especially at Carmarthen, from assets acquired via his wife who was widow of Lewis Hughes, dc1736, ironmaster. In c1748 established Carmarthern Ironworks and by 1760s also had forges at Whitland, Kidwelly, Cwmdwyfran and Blackpool (Pembrokeshire), and tinplate works at Kidwelly and Carmarthen. Gun founding during the Seven Years War, supplying inter alia Ordnance Board. On his death business passed to his son, also John, d1805, and hence to a partnership including a nephew, when in decline [2024]
