Traced origins to 1824 when established by John Cadbury, b1801, as a tea and coffee warehouse. Cadbury subsequently developed the Cadbury Brothers' chocolate making business and in 1849 the warehouse business passed to his nephew, R C Barrow, d1894, when known as Barrow & Co. The range of goods then retailed was substantially broadened. Incorporated 1895 as Barrow's Stores Ltd. By 1940s a major Birmingham grocery business with several non food departments. c1965 acquired by Fitch Lovell
