Traced origins to Arthur McNamara & Co established in 1837 as a carrier for the Eastern Counties Railway Co, later Great Eastern Railway Co. 1852 contractor to Post Offices for local carriage of parcels. Incorporated 1887 as McNamara & Co Ltd. Early on built own vans. Started to operate motor vehicles from 1904. 1910 wholesaling in newspapers. 1911 began nightly mail service from London to Bristol. Financial problems from 1913 leading to reconstruction in 1921. By 1937 depots at Birmingham, Bristol, Leicester and Liverpool. After 1939 in decline
