Traced origins to John B Densham, d1886, a tea wholesaler at Plymouth who relocated to London where he traded initially as Lees & Densham and, from 1873, as Densham & Sons. From 1884 started sale of packeted tea, from 1887 using Mazawattee brand name which was heavily advertised. Subsequently Mazawatee Ceylon Tea Co established as a subsidiary business and in 1896 this and Densham & Sons were reorganised as a public company, Mazawattee Tea Co Ltd. c1900 diversified into chocolate and cocoa products with major works at New Cross, London, and later established chain of cafes/retail shops. In decline after 1918 and in 1950s sold to Burton Son & Saunders Ltd
