Established 1888 in London by H H Martyn. Subsequently developed works/studios at Cheltenham, Birmingham and Glasgow. Employed sculptors, carvers and modellers in production of wide range of high quality products such as metalwork, plasterwork, joinery, furniture, stained glass, etc. Incorporated 1900. In First World War, under A W Martyn, d1947, established with Aircraft Manufacturing Co a joint venture to build aircraft which in 1917 was formed into Gloucestershire Aircraft Co Ltd, later Gloster Aircraft Co Ltd. Martyn's developed as the major employer in Cheltenham area by 1920s. 1934 acquired by Maples and closed 1971
