Established in 1920 as Edward Marsden Ltd by, inter alia, Edward Marsden, b1863, and Joseph Leach, b1876, all of whom had formerly worked for Lorilleux & Bolton, printing ink manufacturers. Early on connected with Raines & Porter Ltd, also of Hull, who made printing ink under contract for Marsdens and held c50% shareholding. R&P sold out 1928 when business started to manufacture it own printing ink. Supplied leading printing businesses in north of England and opened a London office in mid 1930s. 1972 acquired by Arthur Holden & Sons Ltd which was subsequently acquired by ICI Ltd. Marsdens continues as an identifiable entity
