Traced origins to 1878 when established by William F Malcolm as flax and jute merchants at London with a sister house at Dundee called T S Ross & Co. Had formerly worked with the leading firm, Robinson Fleming & Co of London and Dundee. Soon diversified into other products from Baltic region including tar, pitch, cereals. 1891 established Russia branches and later at Riga, Hamburg, Bologna, New York, etc. Incorporated 1932. 1945 developed interests in India.1948 acquired James Morrison & Sons Ltd, rope and twine merchants. Latterly referred to as fibre merchants. Still operating 1970s
