Established by Barclays Bank Ltd in 1925 in order to merge its overseas banking interests developed through acquistion of Colonial Bank, Anglo Egyptian Bank Ltd and National Bank of South Africa. By late 1930s, largest British owned overseas bank. 1954 renamed Barclays Bank (DCO). Early 1970s absorbed into Barclays Group, trading as Barclays Bank International Ltd which in 1984 was completely merged with Barclays' domestic banking operations
