Notes:
Share trading in London dates to 17th century and for many decades was coffee shop based, notably Jonathan's Coffee House. Regulated for the first time from the late 17th century. First securities exchange opened in mid 18th century. 1801 formed into the regulated market within a new building in Capel Court formally known as The Stock Exchange. The present exchange developed from this institution. Premises rebuilt on a much larger scale in 1854. In 1972 and again in 2004, following introduction of electronic trading, moved to a new premises. 1995 started Alternative Investment Market (AIM). 2007 acquired Borsa Italiana to form London Stock Exchange Group Plc [2023]
