Traced origins to John Lees, d1869, who in 1852 established a timber merchant's business. c1858 Lees also established both an iron merchanting business at Wednesbury and a plate and iron bar making businesss at West Bromwich known as Lees Holden & Co. 1869 succeeded by his sons when latter business renamed J B S & C Lees, later known as J B & S Lees. 1912 diversified into making steel plate and bars. Incorporated 1917. 1925 acquired National Steel Co Ltd of Tipton. 1939-45 started manufacture of hardened and tempered steel for sawblades and springs. Continues as a specialist manufacturer of steel strip
