Established 1879 as the printing unit of G Kynock & Co, a major ammunition manufacturing business where it printed shotgun cartridge papers. Kynoch Ltd subsequently merged into Explosives Trades Ltd, soon renamed Nobel Industries Ltd which in 1926 merged with others to form ICI Ltd. It then became ICI's in-house printing unit - especially for books, pamphlets, journals - but printing also undertaken for outside customers. Noted for typefaces and design quality. Employees grew from eight in 1879 to 200+ in 1946. Sold 1976 and closed 1981
