UK subsidiary of Kodak of USA, leading manufacturers of cameras, photographic film, etc. Kodak's first UK representation established in Soho, London in 1885, and soon after a retail outlet opened in Oxford Street. 1889 Eastman Photographic Materials Co Ltd formed in London to handle Kodak business outside North and South America. Major manufacturing plant built at Harrow in early 1890s. 1898 Kodak Ltd floated on London Stock Exchange to own the whole of the Kodak business including that in North America.1901 scheme reversed when business floated in USA although Kodak Ltd remained in being.Throughout 20th century Kodak's UK business grew significantly both organically and by numerous UK acquisition until late in century. Late 1940s major plant opened at Hemel Hempstead in addition to others. c30 stores opened from 1899 but all closed by early 1950s
