Traced origins to Thomas King, 1759-1841, a sailing master and scion of a leading Bristol merchanting family trading to West Indies. By 1790s he was trading to West Africa, Americas and West Indies and became a leading Bristol house. After 1815 focused on Africa trade. From 1833 managed by his sons and renamed Richard & William King who traded exclusively to west Africa, especially in palm oil and timber. 1889 merged Niger Delta business into African Association Ltd. 1911 incorporated. 1918 acquired by Lever Brothers Ltd
