Kenyon family traced origins in business to 17th century when John Kenyon established himself as a cloth merchant at Castleford. In 1826 James Kenyon started up as a woollen manufacturer at Bury and quickly specialised in production of woollen cloth for industrial purposes especially papermaking, calico printing, dyeing and, later, printing, laundry work, piano making, etc. From 1851 known as James Kenyon & Son. 1871 diversified into cotton production for domestic use. Incorporated 1907. 1881 acquired Crimble Spinning Co Ltd for woollen goods production. Focused cotton business on industrial fabrics from 1920s. Converted to public company 1947. Acquired by Albany International Inc of USA in 1968
