Established in City of London in 1884 by two Norwegians, Wilhelm Johnsen and Johan Jorgensen, to import Norwegian goods, especially fish products and glass products, especially bottles, as commission merchants. Soon specialised in glass, becoming major importers and acquired glass manufacturing interests in Sweden. From early 20th century also developed an important wood pulp importing business which in 1908 was hived off into Johnsen Jorgensen & Wettre Ltd, later Ibstock Johnsen Ltd. Main business incorporated 1900. c1919 began manufacture of glass in London. 1920s started to export glass made by UK producers, especially United Glass Bottle Manufacturers Ltd with which a close connection evolved. Diversified in 1925 when established British Cellofoils to make cellulose coated paper packaging. Subsequently developed important plastic packaging interests. 1981 reconstructed as two businesses, Johnsen & Jorgensen Packaging Ltd and Johnsen & Jorgensen Associates Ltd. The former business floated 1983 when the latter renamed Claridge Associates Ltd. Continues
