A notable interest was Wilden Forge operated by E P & W Baldwin Ltd which was fully owned by Alfred Baldwin by 1870. 1886 Alfred established Alfred Baldwin & Co Ltd to erect a tinplate works near Pontypool. 1892 established a joint tinplate venture with Wright Butler & Co at Pont y Moel. Baldwins Ltd was established in 1902 through merger of E P & W Baldwin Ltd, tinplate makers, Alfred Baldwin & Co Ltd, steel and tinplate makers, Wright Butler & Co Ltd, steel producers, Blackwall Galvanized Iron Co Ltd and Bryn Navigation Colliery Co Ltd. 1906 acquired Port Talbot steel works. 1930 merged heavy steel interests with those of Guest Keen & Nettlefolds Ltd to form British (Guest Keen Baldwins) Iron & Steel Co Ltd. 1948 merged with Richard Thomas & Co Ltd to form Richard Thomas & Baldwins Ltd
