Notes:

Traced origins to John Howard who in c1813 started making agricultural implements. From late 1830s, as John Howard & Son and based at Britannia Ironworks, diversified into making ploughs and quickly emerged as a market leader. Subsequently made steam ploughs and also made horse rakes and hoes, cultivators, straw trussers, etc. Known as James & Frederick Howard from 1850. Subsequently incorporated. c1920 merged into Agricultural & General Engineers Ltd which collapsed in 1932. Also noted for tube making
